Table time

so Hell Dorado is a super fun game. and shortly after we started it I decided to make a table. Its interesting because its played on a 30" by 30" table. its divided into 9 squares and objectives and terrain are placed based on an interesting terraforing mechanic that i wont get into here. but it made it really easy to make a table by making 9, ten inch squares.
I used foot long squares of cork I got at a dollar store for hella cheap. I just cut the two inches off each side (and kept them for basing in the future. Awesome!) then glued them to some thick cardboard. After that I spray painted them black.

Next I took a sharp sculpting tool and dug trenches in the cork to look like cracks in the ground.  Then I filled them in with black paint to make them look uniform.

This part is kinda hard to see but i started by painting it all the bottom of the cracks red. then I went over it with orange, making sure to leave some of the red showing around the edges. Then repeated the process with yellow in just a few places to look like hot spots. It actually looks pretty good in person.

After that I glued some stacks of cork on top of each other to make a hill. Then I painted random lava flows down the sides the same way I painted the cracks in the table. That's it so far. i plan to make some more in theme stuff this summer when my group will undoubtedly pick it up again.
